A WiFi hotspot is a device that allows you to connect your enabled devices (e.g. laptop, smartphones, tablets, etc.) to the internet. The hotspot is portable so you can connect your device almost wherever you go. Calvert Library offers mobile hotspots on two networks. Check out a mobile hotspot with your library card.
T-Mobile Beacon hotspots provide unlimited data.
Kajeet hotspots provide unlimited data on the Verizon network but streaming services are limited to YouTube and library streaming services such as Overdrive, Freegal, Hoopla and Kanopy.
Chromebooks are secure, compact, simplified laptops that, when connected to the internet, give users the ability to complete a variety of tasks – job applications, schoolwork, or browsing the web.

Internet access via the hotspots is filtered to comply with the Children’s Internet Protection Act.
For the Kajeet hotspots, in order to provide unlimited data those devices must have a slightly higher filter level. These devices will no longer stream from services like Netflix or Hulu. They should continue to work for social media, Youtube, and the libraries streaming services including Overdrive, Hoopla, Freegal, and Kanopy. The purpose of mobile hotspots is to provide educational and workforce access to our customers. Mobile hotspots may not work for all entertainment purposes.
Chromebooks work with any internet connection.
The hotspots are location-dependent and will only work if the network’s signalreaches the area. We can make no guarantees of connectivity. You may wish toconsult the network coverage maps, but please note that the coverage map does notguarantee coverage. Other factors limit a connection in certain areas that wouldappear to have coverage based on the map.

There are no overdue fines for Chromebooks or Chromebook/hotspot bundles.
If a bundle is overdue, the Chromebook will be suspended, and the Chromebook willnot work. If a bundle is overdue, hotspot data will be suspended, and the hotspot willnot work.
If a Chromebook or Chromebook/hotspot bundle is more than 45 days overdue, youraccount will be billed for the Chromebook or Chromebook/hotspot bundle.
This information only applies to Chromebooks that circulate bundled with hotspots. Mobile Beacon hotspots use the T-Mobile & Sprint network and have no data limits. If the device is overdue, the data will be turned off.
The checkout period is 21 days. As long as there are no holds, Chromebooks andChromebook hotspot bundles are renewable up to four times for three weeks perrenewal.
You need to be 16 years old or older, with a valid library card in good standing.Customers can checkout one Chromebook or Chromebook/hotspot bundle perlibrary card.
