Calvert Library Social Media Policy

Social media platforms are websites that allow users to share information through a digital platform. Currently, Calvert Library maintains and operates official pages on Facebook, Flickr, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.

Purpose
Calvert Library uses various social media platforms to promote programs, services and resources as well as sharing information related to the library’s mission, vision and values. In addition, Calvert Library uses our social media pages to create a welcoming and inviting online space where library users can interact with the library and each other while finding useful and entertaining information. Calvert Library regards our social media pages the same as our physical library spaces, and they should be used in accordance with the library’s customer expectations (above).

Policy
Calvert Library’s social media pages are designated as a limited public forum. As such, Calvert Library reserves the right to remove any and all postings that contain the following:

  • Racist, violent or sexual content, or discriminatory content based on color, gender, age, sexual orientation, religion, country of origin, language of origin, or disability
  • Personal attacks, insults or threatening language
  • Private or personally identifiable information
  • Commercial promotions, advertisements or spam
  • Participation in, or encouragement of, illegal activities
  • Harmful links that pose a cybersecurity threat
  • Violations of copyright, trademark or other intellectual property
  • Off-topic posts that do not relate to the current discussion topic or the library’s mission and/or activities

In addition, users should be aware of third party website’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policies. Users are encouraged to protect their privacy by not posting personally identifiable information.
