Calvert Library now has its own Discord server for teens!
Discord is a free service that allows us to host events online with video and audio. We currently use Zoom for most of our virtual programming, and we will continue to do so for tween/teen programming. For teen-only programs, however, we have decided to use Discord. Why? Discord has a number of teen-friendly features, and it allows teens to stay connected even after the events. Since the teen areas in our buildings are not currently available, we see this as a great way to offer a virtual hangout space/place to come for information. We are also hoping to use it for a number of unique contests, discussions, and events. Sign up now to learn more!
To get started, teens will need to sign up for a Discord account at https://discord.com. They can then fill out the Calvert Library Teen Discord Server Invitation Form to get an invite to our server. This form requires teens to enter their own library card number, (or crab card/student number) which is how we verify their age and identity. When we have verified the teen’s information, we will send out a Discord invite through email. Once a teen is a member of our server, they can start using it immediately. The server will be monitored by librarians to help ensure it is a safe environment, and we have also put in a number of other safeguards in place. Still have questions? Check out these resources:
