BOOKMOBILE
The most exciting thing about the bookmobile is how we will be able to answer more questions, provide more learning opportunities, increase access to technology and share more straight-up joy! In short, we get to provide service to so many more of you! It includes two computer workstations for customers, a printer, Wi-Fi service, a wheelchair lift to make the vehicle accessible and an awning to allow for comfortable outside service and events. The vehicle has a generator to power the technology and warm/cool the vehicle even when it is not running but it also has large batteries that can be solar charged so the generator will not have to run most of the time. This vehicle also has more safety features than the old van, such as front and rear proximity sensors, backing alarm and exterior cameras.
You will see our Mobile Services Team and the bookmobile at new community stops, including such locations as East John Youth Center, SMILE, Prince Frederick Senior Village, Solomon’s Town Center Park, Silverwood Farms and MORE. Check out our BOOKMOBILE SCHEDULE! While a preliminary route has been established, we will continue to gather community input and evaluate best deployment. Be on the lookout for us and the bookmobile at community events like the County Fair and National Night Out.
Calvert Library Mobile Services Supervisor Lisa Wieland said, “We are so excited to extend our service through the bookmobile. Our Mobile Services team is so grateful to the many people who have made this service possible for Calvert County.”

Eligible homebound customers receive monthly delivery of new materials straight to their door. CLMS staff do extensive readers advisory with each customer to ensure they receive the right kind of books, movies, magazines–you name it!–every month. For extra safety for staff and customers during COVID-19, monthly visits have shifted to a door-drop model and reader’s advisory and other library services happen over the phone prior to each scheduled visit.
Visits to licensed family child care providers include exchange of curated preschool books as well as a 20 minute storytime. Early literacy and school readiness are some of the building blocks of a strong community. Storytimes are currently all being held outside for extra safety during COVID-19. Providers who prefer not to receive Storytime at this time still get monthly visits to exchange materials.
